Becoming An Affiliate Marketer – An untold story

By Jacques

Affiliate marketing has become a full-time career for many people, including myself. You get moments that you want to cry out of frustration and anger but in the end, it is totally worth it.   A common mistake many people make is to think that internet marketing is easy. Shit, if it was… a lot more people would of been doing it. Making money on the internet is a job for many and as in any other job, we still have to work hard to reach our goals.

When I first started out three years ago I thought SEO had something to do with a CEO of a company and I thought the meaning of an affiliate had something to do with sex. I was really lost, just like most of you probably were. My friends and family were all “technically disabled” so I had to conduct research on my own to learn as much from the “gurus” as I possibly could. The point is that we all have to start somewhere and work our way to the top.  Life is like constipation, you have to unplug it before it really starts flowing.

I started out with Clickbank as my first affiliate program. I was astonished that you could sell other people’s stuff for a profit but the excitement did’nt last long. I made one or two sales a month despite my best efforts. A year and a half later I started with companies such as Hydranetwork where I started making my big money. I promise you the first time that I checked my account and saw I made $320 for the day, I fell on my back and it felt as if I was going to get a heart attack. Only after a couple of consecutive months of earning $300+ a day i got over it and persued other great companies like the Advaliant Network and Pepperjam. Those three networks have by far brought me the most money of all the networks online. For the first time I felt that my internet career was busy booming. Life was turning out to be the journey I was hoping for.

The best advice I can share with you is this:

1. Read read and read

Try to read one hour a day to improve your skills in whatever you choose to pursue.

2. A Jack of all trades is a master of nothing

Focus your energy on one thing at a time. Spreading your attention to different tasks only dilutes your efforts which makes you unproductive.

3. Write about what you love

People like passion. If they realize that you are faking this passion, they WILL leave and never come back so be true to yourself.

4. Get a blog or a website up

Its so easy to get a Wordpress blog up and running that even my “technically disabled” parents would be able to do that. Hostgator has a website builder and everything you need for a couple of pennies per month.

5. Do plenty of research about SEO

Search engine optimization is a crucial role in any affiliate marketers job. Study it, talk about it, practice it until you learn to completely master it.

6. Enjoy it

Have fun for crying out loud. Dont just do it for the money. Do it for the love of it.

I truly hope that you can find some similarities in this story and I would like to hear some more comments, questions and feedback from you guys to bring you what you want to hear.  Thank you for reading and if you liked this post, remember to subscribe to my RSS for updates.

You do not seem to be using the afilliates mentioned on this particular site. Do you have other sites that you use them on?

Excellent question! I prefer not to use it on my personal blogs such as this. I currently run 11 domains in different niches that I promote such offers. I am a professional bodybuilder and therefore enjoy talking about fitness. Fitness and health is a multibillion dollar market and when using such networks I delve deeper into programs like that.

I’ll make a posting soon about my accounts at Hydra and Advaliant to show you guys what all the hype is about. Thanks for reading and keep on asking questions.

You are so spot on with this article. ClickBank was my first source of affiliate excitement, but as you’ve said I quickly learned that it wasn’t as easy as it sounded and I learned that not all affiliate opportunities are created equal. Hydranetwork has definitely been a winner. Some affiliate networks provide better results than others and those networks get my attention. I’m going to check out AdValiant today. ShareASale and AzoogleAds have been good for me too. Thanks for sharing your experience.
