Learning, Earning and Getting the Wheels Turning

I have for many years frowned upon ebooks released by the so called “leaders” in the field of internet and affiliate marketing and this for a good reason. Affiliate marketing all boils down to business. Your website, your blog…. that’s all business folks. Whether you like it or not. If you don’t understand business, you wont succeed with online marketing until you fully understand this concept.

I am currently in my last year of my business degree and this alone has shed so much light on my way of thinking. The markets that I target, the books that I read and the way that I can combine my knowledge with a certain product is what makes my stuff sell. I do however agree that you don’t need a business degree to do online marketing but it sure does help if you read the RIGHT type of books.  Let me use an simple example: You’re browsing around online and come across this perfect ebook. It has reviews, it looks nice and has tons of valuable bonuses, it costs ONLY $97!” ONLY $97??? ONLY $97?????? Okay before I get a stroke or something, let me explain:

Seth Godin, the creator of Squidoo, the master of marketing and a consultant to Google has released brilliant books and yet, so many people opt to buy into other products nearly promising success and wealth.  Here is what I have recently bought for $30 and keep in mind that these  are physical hard cover books  has reached the top of the best-sellers lists numerous times:

Seth Godin:

1. All Marketers Are Liars: The Power of Telling Authentic Stories in a Low-Trust World

2. The Big Red Fez: How To Make Any Web Site Better

3. Unleashing the Ideavirus

4. If You’re Clueless about Starting Your Own Business

5. The Big Moo : Stop Trying to Be Perfect and Start Being Remarkable

Reading through these titles you may start to wonder why he chose these obscure names. This is a typical example of creating curiousity and creating demand. He explains his theories in detail in all his books and if you dont believe me, go Google him.

Lets summarize what we have learnt today:

1. Seth Godin is one of the best internet marketers in the world.

2. For $97 you can buy ALL ELEVEN of Seth Godin’s books TWICE

3. Internet marketing, affiliate marketing, blog and websites = Business

4. Normal does not sell. Be creative, be unique and be honest.

5. Don’t buy from anyone you don’t trust.
